National Coalition of Clean Energy Incubators

The National Coalition of Clean Energy Incubators (NCCEI) brings together the most powerful and effective cleantech incubators in the U.S. 

Together, this national coalition promotes robust growth of regional energy innovation ecosystems across the nation by providing support for startups and entrepreneurs whose businesses focus on clean energy-related technologies.

Advocating for the cleantech incubator community

LACI convened the NCCEI in early 2020. The NCCEI has championed the Transportation Electrification Partnership’s $150 billion federal stimulus proposal; worked with Rep. Tim Ryan to secure funding for the U.S. DOE Office of Technology Transitions; and championed the creation of the National Clean Energy Incubator Program, which was was authorized in the CHIPS and Science Act and signed into law by President Biden in 2022. The NCCEI regularly hosts roundtables and advocacy events with policymakers in Washington, D.C.

Leading the Coalition

Under LACI’s leadership, NCCEI’s members have unanimously adopted a Statement of Principles in support of Justice40, the Biden-Harris Administration’s signature environmental justice policy. In the statement of principles, NCCEI members vow to prioritize initiatives that increase support and enhance opportunities for diverse underrepresented cleantech entrepreneurs, provide job training for at-risk communities and scale deployment of clean energy solutions in disadvantaged communities.

"Clean energy incubators provide crucial support for startups, and yet the amount of federal funding dedicated to incubators and accelerators is paltry given the need to meet the climate crisis.  That is in great part why LACI formed the National Coalition of Clean Energy Incubators (NCCEI) to advocate for additional resources for early stage cleantech startups and entrepreneurs to move at speed and scale, and provide a voice for the community in Washington and other venues."
