Our Model

Accelerating climate action with a unique model of innovation

Working across three pillars

Unlocking Innovation, Market Transformation, and Enhancing Communities

We create impact in Los Angeles and beyond

by working with startups to accelerate the commercialization of clean technologies; transforming markets through partnerships with policymakers, innovators, and market leaders in zero-emission transportation, clean energy, and sustainable cities; and enhancing communities through workforce development, pilots, and other programs.

LACI leads by example

Take a look at how our unique three pillar model is accelerating equitable climate action for the people of Los Angeles.

Helping cities adopt innovation

Cities look to LACI for expertise in identifying, vetting, implementing and piloting new sustainable solutions that address local needs. LACI works with partner cities to accelerate climate action in several ways:

Creating innovation “Sandboxes” and Pilot Funds

We help cities shape and issue RFIs for needed climate solutions to identify startup and corporate innovation, select solutions, and  fund pilot(s) for startups to deploy in the innovation “sandbox”.

Sharing Learnings, Scaling Solutions, and Convening the Private Sector

We help mayor’s offices and local government via a city-to-city, peer-to-peer network to share learnings, scale the viable business model and policy solutions, as well as convene key private sector leaders and policymakers to unlock market forces of cohort cities.

Scaling Startups with Debt and Venture Funds plus Incubation Services

Once startup solutions are proven, LACI helps scale startups via LACI’s debt and venture funds as well as incubation services access to workforce training.

LACI and LKIC: The front door for cleantech innovation in Greater Los Angeles and beyond

Founded as an economic development initiative by the City of Los Angeles and its Department of Water & Power (LADWP) in 2011.

We work with cities, startup companies and founders, as well as other key public and private sector actors to invite and scale new technologies.
