Cleantech Market Landscape Highlights the Need for Resilience Solutions in Los Angeles and Beyond
Each year LACI helps broaden understanding of opportunities and challenges to cleantech adoption by analyzing the current policy, investment, corporate and government environments in our Market Landscape report.
This year’s report outlines significant trends from 2024, including surging power demand from increased electrification and artificial intelligence (AI) computation, new policies at all levels to decarbonize buildings, accelerating light-duty electric vehicle adoption and infrastructure investments, growing electrification of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and extending producer responsibility policies to combat plastic and textile waste.
Progress in 2024 contrasts with new challenges we are now facing in 2025, including growing headwinds for climate initiatives due to new federal leadership, and the devastating wildfires that swept through the Los Angeles region in January. Nevertheless, LACI remains steadfast in our commitment to scaling needed cleantech solutions across the Los Angeles region and beyond, with a focus on deploying innovations and adopting policies to increase resiliency, and ensure a legacy of cleaner air and robust economic opportunities.
Based on the current market landscape, LACI is focusing its 2025 priorities on:

There are many prime opportunities to promote resilience in LA and beyond. For instance, LACI and many of our ecosystem partners are exploring creating resilience hubs–community locations that connect residents and first responders with resources during emergency and recovery periods–that include resilient and reliable clean power, mobile energy storage batteries, and infrastructure to support emergency response operations.
LACI is spearheading resilient regional recovery on several fronts, including by announcing the LA Resilient Rebuilding Cup. This innovation competition for resilient rebuilding and climate action provides entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch a live audience of investors and corporate partners on their cleantech solutions to win prizes and support for in-market deployment. Additionally, LACI President and CEO, Matt Petersen, is providing key recommendations on rebuilding resiliently as Chair of LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Climate Action and Fire Safe Recovery.
Los Angeles has the attention of the nation and the world as it moves from response to rebuilding in the face of the disastrous fires in Altadena and Pacific Palisades. The global hub of creativity and storytelling, Los Angeles has the opportunity to emerge from disaster as a beacon of climate innovation by embracing resilience. By implementing cutting-edge climate policies and technologies to rebuild resiliently from disaster and prepare for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, LA can demonstrate powerful climate leadership on the world stage while building a stronger, healthier future.
